Revise Opening Worlds and Opening Lines

Great for teachers not students - I am sure this book is brilliant for teachers to give them ideas on what to ask their class in response to the story just read.however for studentd this exam guide tells you a limited amount of what you want to know and all it does is pose questions for you to think about. therefore i would not advise getting this book as it offers nothing useful for revision!!

waste of money - This book will teach you virtually nothing. It identifies the themes the stoies contain and that really is about it.If you are looking to increase your understanding of the stories you will find nothing helpful here. A complete waste of money.

Disappointing! - This isn t really a proper revision guide - it just contains exercises like Thinking & Linking which reinforces what you ve done in class, and teaches you how to compare the poems and short stories. It doesn t really discuss the themes and meanings of the set texts - it concentrates on exam technique. I found it very similar to the Working With Opening Worlds & Opening Lines book we used in class, where it gives vague hints and tries to get you to develop your own ideas.

Not a typical revision guide - Once you ve studied the books in class, this will be a helpful prompt with revision but if you buy this book hoping to teach yourself after lessons of not paying attention in class, you will be very disappointed. It refers to the themes in each book very roughly without much explanation of what themes are, and it s not like the York Notes or Spark Notes books for literature where it provides character analysis or quotes. It contains a few practise essays and specimen answers to these questions, but these answers are bad answers as in the book says that they have things missing it, so you ll have to be careful else you may learn how to write a question badly. It s not awful, it does give useful vocabulary for answering a question, but it doesn t give away all the answers - and that s what most people are looking forward to in a revision guide.
